What is Enhanced CPD?

Enhanced CPD is the new scheme from the GDC, replacing the previous CPD scheme.

The Enhanced CPD scheme came into effect in January 2018 for Dentists, and the 1st of August 2018 for all Dental Care Professionals.

The main changes to the scheme are:

  • All Dental Care Professionals will be required to have a Personal Development Plan (PDP)
  • Some professional roles will see an increase in the required number of Enhanced CPD hours, and the added requirement to have the hours spread in a more even manner across their cycle.
  • The GDC will no longer require the reporting of non-verifiable CPD hours.
  • Even if you have not completed any CPD in that year, you must submit an annual statement to the GDC.
  • CPD activity must be aligned with specific development outcomes.
  • CPD activity must be planned according to their individual “field(s) of practice”.
